Central European Media Enterprise (CEMEA)

Centre for Engineering and Manufacturing Excellence (CEME), established in 2001, is one of the leading employers of over a hundred thousand people working in all sectors of the engineering industry in more than sixty countries worldwide. It has six departments: Finance, Business, Information Technology, Employment and Training, Production and Logistics. A new branch of CEME, the ‘European Centre for Manufacturing, Entrepreneurship and Innovation’, has been set up in Brussels to complement the organisation’s many international activities.

CEME has an overall budgetary allocation of about seven billion euro, of which about thirty percent is for research and development. Most of the seven billion euro is spent on training the staff of its six departments, mostly consisting of about fifty staff members. Since most of the CEME staff are trained within their own organisations or have academic qualifications, most of them have past experience of training people. The fact that the organisations hiring the staffs are mainly well-established industrial organisations and finance-based companies means that the employees of CEME have been thoroughly prepared before being deployed.

The CEME project management curriculum is designed to train future managers, project managers and supervisors so that they can become efficient managers and project managers by having a thorough knowledge of the process and materials that are used in the various projects they are responsible for, such as design development, technical analysis, testing, optimization and implementation. CEME also provides project managers with comprehensive documentation and tools that are required for a wide variety of purposes, such as performance evaluation, cost assessment, risk management, scheduling, project coordination and creation of work schedules. These tools are usually developed and managed by the centres’ technical support services division. Since CEME uses a common terminology throughout its projects, it also facilitates cross-functional communication between the various departments.
